Amusing errors

Being a web designer occasionally you look for certain things on websites that the average punter wouldn't ever dream of looking at.

But earlier I looked at a website that had taken the time to highlight a particular word. The pity of it was the word was spelt wrong and also "claimed" to be a hyperlink which was a shame as it didn't work.

I also looked at the page description under view source and there was a great spelling mistake in there too on their keywords so the site wont rank for the words they meant to put there as google can't tell what they were aiming to say!

Irritations in sports

There are a number of things that get on my nerves about some sports - hopefully you will find my gripes at least slightly amusing.

First off Baseball. Whilst copying Rounders but changing the name fair enough. Rounders isn't the sexiest name in the world. But talking of world why call it the "World Series" when only one country's teams are allowed to play? Rather arrogant to presume you are better than everyone else without playing them...

American Football. I like American football. Particularly the 49ers who I enjoyed watching in the late 80s with Jerry Rice and Joe Montana. But can someone explain to me why its called "football" when most of the time is spent holding the ball with your hands? Its like here in the UK calling it "Rugby Football". Football is played with a completely round ball and 95% of the time is only touched by players feet. Hence the name Football.

Darts. And Snooker. These are classed as "sports" for some reason. I my mind a "sport" is a pastime where if you are participating properly (like running...) you should be pushed physically. When was the last time we saw a snooker or darts player break a sweat from too much effort? Never. They are very skilful games (both at which I am completely useless I hasten to add) but they are not sports. They fall in the same bracket as Chess. Very skilful with lots of tactics but they are not sports.

Why Olly Moss Rules the World!

Anyone checking Apple's trailers recently will have noticed some extremely excellent posters on there for some old and new classics alike. The artist responsible is Olly Moss. Here's my own homage to the great man.

Thoughts on Medal of Honor beta

I was lucky enough to win a code for the new Medal of Honor beta and installed the bad boy on my PS3. Thoughts so far? Well I personally think the graphics knock the socks off anything to come out of Infinity Ward but that's just my view. Gameplay. I like the idea of mission based matches like storming the village thing in Helmand Valley. I don't really like the Kabul Ruins map as I rarely see the guy who kills me oh so often. But so far my biggest gripe would be the idea of levelling up for each type of soldier. So I have earned an extra mag for the basic grunt. But I have an issue with having to gain experience points for each type of soldier. Even my current favoured FPS which is Killzone 2 allows all experience points to count toward your weapon unlocks no matter what type of soldier you were when you earned them.

Chrome OS

I know its been a long time since Chrome OS was announced and the source code was made available but I've just managed to piggy back some one else's had work and all round awesomeness and run it on one of our older machines. I have to promote Hexxeh's work here as having a go with Chrome OS using the method on the site is virtually foolproof.

Anyway, I digress. If you've used Chrome browser its virtually identical. But the applications on there were brilliant. I don't know if Hexxeh has added them or they come as standard but there didn't seem much missing from a normal linux distro.

I am however seeking the holy grail on my test linux box. It currently runs lubuntu but I feel this is a little slow. Likewise for Mint LXDE. So if I can persuade crunchbang to install I might just be happy!

Come on England!

Do I think we will win? Hmm. Spain are supposed to be good though I haven't seen them in action. I do however think Torres is the best striker in the world at the moment. Brazil? Best going forward but can't defend for toffee. They might as well not bother with a goalkeeper... Italy? They cheated against USA four years ago so shouldn't have won plus that chicken shit Materrazi needs knobing for not being man enough to beat Zidane fair and square. So maybe. What I do think for sure is that it's our best squad for a long time and the most professional manager we've had for years so now's as good as time as any!

iPhone 4

I'm not a fan of the current iPhone and I think some of the Andriod equipped phones look very sexy. But I have to admit I think the design change for the new iPhone is a brave and bold (almost better?) choice for Apple. If I were to pick between iphone 4 and all current phones on sale I have to admit I like the iPhone 4 a lot. But would I be prepared to pay £30 plus a month for 2 years to a bunch of cowboys like O2? Unlikely.
